Who am I?
Hard question. I think a lot of it'll be clear from the site, but for the stuff that isn't...
- Raised in Idaho (USA), born 2002.
- I'm bi and an aspie. I know, the DDR guy on Neocities in the 2020's is both autistic and not straight. Try and pick your jaws up off the floor.
- I started learning HTML a few minutes after I made the site.
- Besides DDR I love shonen anime, though I've only seen a few even though I've been a fan since I was 13. I love going deep into them, imagining rewrites in my head and messing with their worlds. I'm working on a wiki for "the One Piece world but with the characters from all my other favorites". So basically the idea every 10-year-old has but actually trying to make it coherent. My first love is the DC Animated Universe (never seen BTAS though lol) and superhero TTRPGs, especially Mutants and Masterminds (but I've never had anyone to play with, I just love the settings). I've tried to get into gaming but I hate playing alone and it feels like every game is either 1 player or online. Oh, and of course...
...my unhelthy obsession. (I always play in this shirt, if you want to picture what I look like)
- Life isn't nearly as bad as "bi aspie from Idaho" makes it sound, but I am pretty lonely. And I have good memories of reading CyricZ's DDR FAQs when I was little. So I'm making the site I wish someone else had made and I hope someone feels a connection.
How my setup works
- I only wanted to play songs I liked so I picked a couple hundred favorites (out of 14,000 Stepmania songs, took me like a month) for my songlist. Sometimes I add more. It's split into 13 folders roughly based on genre.
- These songs come from all different sources, I'll try to link them all. Almost none of them are official. I converted everything into the old difficulty scale, deleted anything 10 feet or higher unless it was supposed to be a boss (there's still nothing over 10) and shuffled the charts around so everything had a Basic, Difficult and Expert chart. In other words, sometimes the Expert chart here was the Difficult or Challenge chart in the original file. I also took out all the hands cause you can't really bracket on my pad. A few songs have charts from two files spliced together (Basic/Difficult charts from one file and an Expert from another, for example).
- Non-Expert/Challenge charts below 8 might be rated wrong, I had a lot of songs to get through and I wasn't gonna play those charts. That goes triple for Mungyodance songs; there are a lot of them and I guess Emma didn't care about anything 6 and under.
- I play Stepmania 5.0, Beware's DDR EXTREME theme with quarter-increment speed mods added. I use a soft pad taped to particleboard (yeah I should've used wood, sue me) taped to puzzle foam.
How scoring works (IMPORTANT)
- Here's the thing. If you care about score, DDR timing windows, the precision you need to get each judgement, are really stressful. The number one reason I can't get my friends to play DDR is the timing makes them feel like idiots. And it's impossible to just be done with a song, MFCs are way out of reach for most people and even PFCs aren't easy to get (I still don't have any). So it's hard to feel like you're making real progress. So I fixed that.
- There are three step judgements on my setup. Marvelous is +- 60 ms (about two-thirds the size of the normal Great window, almost twice the Perfect window) and gives full points. Good is +- 105 ms (slightly larger than the normal Great window), breaks combo and gives a fifth the points. Anything more than 105 ms off is a miss and gives no points.
- So even though I'll call 100% a full combo it's more impressive than the standard Full Combo. Much less impressive than a PFC though.
- Why are my scores out of 10? Really you add 90%, so an 8.10 is a 98.1%. I did it out of 10 to make the differences between scores much more obvious (a 99% doesn't seem much different than a 96% but it really is in this system, it's four times as many notes missed). Here are the grades:
- 10 (100%) = FC
- 9.5 (99.5%) = S
- 9 (99%) = A+
- 8.5 (98.5%) = A
- 8 (98%) = A-
- 7.25 (97.25%) = B+
- 6.25 (96.25%) = B
- 5 (95%) = B-
- 3.5 (93.5%) = C+
- 2 (92%) = C
- 0 (90%) = D
- Negative (under 90%) = D-
What charts I'm playing
I'm playing all Expert and Challenge charts AND any other chart rated 8 or higher.
